About the Author
Joe Luxbacher has more than 30 years of experience playing and coaching soccer at all levels. A former professional soccer player for the North American Soccer League, American Soccer League, and Major Indoor Soccer League, Luxbacher is the head coach of men's soccer at the University of Pittsburgh, a position he has held since 1984.
Luxbacher was named Big East Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 1992 and 1995, and he was selected for the Beadling Soccer Club Hall of Fame in 1995. Luxbacher earned his PhD from the University of Pittsburgh in 1985 with specializations in physical education and management as well as administration of athletics. He lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America honored Gene Klein as the 1996 National High School Coach of the Year. He has more than 30 years of playing and coaching experience, including a boys' high school team at Quaker Valley High School in Pennsylvania that claimed six state championships. He has served three seasons as an assistant coach for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds and spent over 10 years as the director of coaching for the Pennsylvania West Soccer Association. He is also a member of the coaching staff for US Soccer Region 1 Boys' Olympic Development Program. A former goalkeeper, he has coached goalkeepers at the youth, high school, college, and pro levels.
