When, in the dawn of the 19th century, Humboldt and Bonplant avidly toured the American surface, they included in their notes that the Quindio region in Colombia was practically covered with guadua trees. That is not surprising. The fertile, humid, well-drained soil in this zone is completely apt for these plants.
