Gail Niebrugge's Alaska Wildflowers: An Artist's Journey in Paintings and Prose
Editorial Reviews
Book Description
Twenty-five years ago, Gail Niebrugge was drawing cartoons for war manuals as an illustrator for the U.S. Navy and Marines. But this was not the career she had in mind for herself. With the support of a loving family, she moved to remote Glennallen, Alaska, where she began pushing her art in a new and exciting direction.
A pointillist, Gail painted and painted and painted. At first she painted mountains and vast wilderness landscapes. Then her paintings began to move. She learned to fly so she could add aerial perspectives. Closer to the ground, she painted roadhouses and other historic buildings, serving as the artist in residence for the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Her popularity grew.
One summer day, Gail was capturing a mountain scene with a meadow of wildflowers in the foreground represented by tiny dots of red, yellow, and blue. As she bent to the ground to examine the wildflowers more closely, she fell in love with what she saw. Gail hasn't forsaken mountains and roadhouses, but mostly she paints flowers now-stunningly beautiful, delicate, and brilliantly colorful flowers that she travels many miles to find. This gorgeous volume chronicles her journey both personally and professionally from the majestic to the minuscule.
