Preventing inhumane treatment of living things is a consumer's responsibility. Considering that there are plenty of products available that have not been tested on animals, why do we still choose to support the companies that abuse, kill and maim our brothers and sisters? In an effort to put a stop to unnecessary, abusive technology, The National Anti-Vivisection Society lists cruelty-free companies and their products, as well as companies that refused to reveal their testing practices.
A common form of animal testing, the Draize test, measures the harmfulness of toxins from household and cosmetic products by administering them directly into the eyes of rabbits. This type of testing leaves their eyes bleeding and ulcerated; all of these animals are killed after testing is completed. No type of cleaner or make-up merits such brutal, loathsome behavior. You may be disturbed to discover that the bulk of what sits on your bathroom counter or under your kitchen sink is NOT cruelty-free. This is an excellent guide to help you make more conscientious choices. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
